The Hall of Embodied Treasures was built in 1914 after the fall of the Qing Dynasty. 宝蕴楼建于1914年，彼时清朝已腐朽。
After Puyi abdicated the throne, he was allowed to live within the Forbidden City, but administration of the palaces was taken over by Beiyang government of China. 溥仪退位后居住于紫禁城内廷，外朝由北洋政府接管。
Cultural relics from other properties formerly owned by the royal family, such as Chengde Mountain Resort in Hebei province and Shenyang Imperial Palace in Liaoning province, were then moved to the Forbidden City.
